Reverend Eugene L. Krieger was born in Granite City, Illinois on February    

19, 1930. Following his elementary education in the public schools of that city, he began his studies for the holy ministry by entering Concordia College in Fort Wayne, Indiana, graduating in 1950. He continued his studies at Concordia Seminary in St. Louis, Missouri and was graduated in 1955. Pastor Krieger received his B.A. degree from Concordia Seminary in 1952 and his

Master of Divinity (M.Div.) degree from Concordia Seminary in 1961.        

 

He served his vicarage at Trinity Lutheran Church in Traverse City, Michigan, during which time he assisted in the establishment of a new mission, St. Michael's Lutheran Church in Traverse City.

Upon graduation from the seminary, Pastor Krieger was ordained

at Trinity Lutheran Church, Traverse City on June 19, 1955.  The following month he married Norma Ann Auldrich of Traverse City. He has three married sons and seven grandchildren:

Pastor Krieger’s first call was to a new mission field in Panorama City, California, a suburb of Los Angeles.  Serving Under the Mission Board of the Southern California District, he organized the Lutheran Church of the Redeemer. During his ministry in southern California, lie served as a member of the first board of directors of the Pacoima Memorial Lutheran Hospital, an inter-synodical institution in the San Fernando Valley.

 

In December of 1957, he accepted the call to become associate pastor of Trinity Lutheran Church in Traverse City, which position he has held until 1961. While in Traverse City, he served as chairman of the Manistee Circuit's Parish Education Committee. He also served secretary of the Michgan District's Public Relations Committee.

 

On Cantate Sunday, April 30, 1961, he was installed as pastor of Our Savior Lutheran Church, Grand Rapids, Michigan. Following his installation as pastor of Our Savior Church (which took place in the gymnasium of Martin Luther School- the Interparish school of the "mother"  congregation named Redeemer Church and the mission congregation named Our Savior) in April of '61, the little mission congregation continued to grow under Pastor Krieger’s leadership. With the Lord's blessing, the dedication of the new church was celebrated in A+D 1996.

 

Pastor Krieger served at Our Savior Lutheran as its first pastor and for thirty-one years thereafter.
