How Should I dress when I come to worship? What Should I bring when I come to church? How should I dress when I come to worship? You should never make the clothes you wear an important factor as to whether you come to church or not. The Lord formed you in the womb. He knows what you look like at your best and at your worst. As for what people will say . . . when you visit Trinity, you will notice that there are a wide range of styles of dress. We have rich and poor, neat and sloppy children of God. They are all welcomed and loved in their Father's house. As a general rule, its nice to dress in your most presentable clothes. This shows that you choose to give honor to the Lord. It doesn't mean your clothes need to be expensive, fancy or particularly stylish. In confirmation classes, our Pastors often remind our teens that our clothes should not distract others from the reason we are in church. Rather, our clothing should let everyone know that we are present for an event that is meaningful to us. We should consider the chance to be in the Lord's presence as a special time. The answer has a lot more to do with attitude than possessions. But to put your mind at ease here's a guide about "what to bring" that will also help you prepare for what you will receive! 1. A Bible - if you have one. Don't worry if you don't have a Bible, we have a lot of them around the church. In fact, we have basically everything you will need waiting and ready for you to arrive. But your own Bible allows you to take notes during the sermon and to have your own personal Bible when you stay for Bible Classes or Sunday school. 2. An Expectation that God will Provide His Gifts to you in Worship Worship as the Bible talks about is different than what you experience in your day to day life. It's meant to be that way. If you think about it, that's a message in and of itself. Our time together with God is special. He calls us to come away from the stress and strains of life, away from the unwholesome influences of the world and be His people. In worship He gives you what HE says you need. The more we understand of this the better worship becomes. God speaks and we listen. We then respond to what He says in our worship and our lives. He tells us the reality of the world and our lives and tells us about His answers. He brings a new beginning and new life - you would expect that worship should be different than what you experience in your "old life" without God. (Click HERE to go back to the top of the page)
